Consultation European Commission - Capital Markets Union

September 8, 2020 | Previous consultations

The European Commission launched in June 2020 a public consultation on the protection and facilitation of investments in the European Union.

The new Capital Markets Union Action Plan will include an initiative to strengthen investment protection within the Union and to unlock more diverse sources of finance for European businesses, in particular SMEs. Following the recent termination of intra-EU bilateral investment treaties, this public consultation invites EU citizens and other stakeholders to express their views on the strengths and weaknesses of cross-border investments in the EU. The objective is to assess the current investment protection framework, including the substantive rules and dispute settlement mechanisms.

The public consultation will feed into the Commission's future policy initiatives. The consultation is open until September 8, 2020.
