FFT x BPI: Fundraising for the first half of 2021 from French fintechs

France FinTech, the professional association of French fintech, insurance and regtech and Bpifrance publish the biannual barometer of French fintech fundraising.

French fintechs raised nearly a billion and a half, an increase of 228% compared to the same period of 2020.

A record semester

Cumulative fundraising (68 operations) is close to € 1,5 billion (€ 1498,9 million), i.e. 3,3 times the amount for the first half of 2020.

The period confirms and amplifies a trend observed for several years (reminder of total fundraising in 2020: € 828m, 2019: € ​​699m, 2018: € 365m).

 


Analysis of the transaction flow also shows
the maturity of a number croissant actors, illustrated by several indicators:

  • la progression supported by average ticket (€ 22m, + 44,7% vs. H1 2020)
  • the increase in the number of transactions greater than or equal to € 50 million (7)
  • the presence of 15 Series B transactions and beyond for a total of € 1,1 billion

 

However, emergence young shoots do not become dull as evidenced by the number of priming emergence (47% of the total).
Finally, we note that the objemain t fundraising is the financing of growth (often very strong), international expansion and recruitments.

In sectoral terms, the levies concernedfirst and foremost:

  • insurance services (39% of the total amount), with large-scale operations (3 over € 100 million and no less than 6 Series A between € 10 and € 30 million)
  • so-called “operational” services  (28% of waivers), solutions dealing with invoice and expense report issues or offering dedicated solutions for the purchasing or HR function.  
  • savings services
    • Epsor carries out in series B the most important fundraising for a French savings player (20M €)
    • Also emergence of many savings and retirement management solutions over the past 18 months

Also note the development of models focused on the Impact : (education, inclusion, solidarity, proximity, green finance, etc.) in all sub-categories (neo-banks, savings management, investment). 

The presence of international and global investors in significant lifts are amplified.

French fintech now employs 25 people and includes 000 new unicorns : Alan, Shift Technology and Ledger who join iValua, Kyriba and Dataiku (the latter two now established in the United States).

It is one of the most dynamic in Europe and one of the main components of French tech : first sector represented in the Next40 (9 fintech) or the European ranking Vivatech x GP Bullhound (first sector in France) and second in FT120 (19 fintech).
