France Fintech takes stock of the year 2022

Jan 12, 2023 | Publications

The France Fintech association notes a strong growth in investments in 2022. Even if there are large disparities between the first and second half of the year. For the association, if the general context calls for caution, it should allow the market to improve.

Unlike the fintech observatory – which notes a decline in the share of investors in the fintech sector in 2022 – the France Fintech association notes an increase in the amounts invested. According to the structure, which represents 350 of the 900 French companies, the amounts raised by startups increased by 28% during the year 2022. Even if great disparities were noted: “During the first half of the year, companies in the sector raised 2,2 billion euros, notes Alain Clot, president of France Fintech. While in the second half, they gathered 704 million euros. ". That is an amount three times lower. For the association, this difference is mainly explained by the wait-and-see position of investors.

The year 2022 has indeed been very mixed. If the activity of business angels has doubled, that of international investors, and in particular American, has largely decreased. “This is mainly due to great uncertainty at the macroeconomic level. The year is on the whole progressing but the second half shows a deceleration”, explains the president of France Fintech, who thus approaches the analysis of the fintech observatory.

Growing turnover

The turnover of start-ups in the sector has generally increased, as has their recruitment. From 30.000 jobs in 2021, fintech has grown to 40.000 this year. “Seed investments also held up very well. Which is encouraging since these are the companies that will take over,” continues Alain Clot.
